DeLorean considered Giugiaro one of the world's greatest automotive engineers and designers. He was correct. After receiving the technical specifications for the new model, Giugiaro presented a design that looks as modern today as it did in 1981.

Though flawed at the edges, there is enough of the original concept there to show distinct possibilities. The DeLorean certainly deserves better than to be remembered only for the financial scandals that followed its untimely demise.

The DMC was virtually turning into a federal Lotus Esprit. Construction of the DMC underbody is similar to that of the Esprit's exterior, the significant difference being the stainless steel panels. The backbone chasses differs on the DeLorean by simply being larger and stronger in order to accommodate the car's bigger dimensions.
