Northern Ireland had a place to build a factory, and it had a work force it desperately wanted to see working. But most of all, it had millions of dollars to invest in the project, to be called DeLorean Motor Company LTD., or DMCL.

The most noteworthy features of the DeLorean were its flip-up doors and unpainted stainless steel body. Some said there was no paint because painted cars would have considerably raised the cost of the already overpriced car.
