The sudden changeover to the stay-at-home husband from the Hollywood swinger was not as difficult as it might have been. DeLorean had never been an enthusiastic partygoer, he had not taste for alcohol, and he was indifferent to gourmet cooking because of his fixation on diets and health.

DeLorean has a history of being dedicated to proper self-administration in the world of big business. A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at Lawrence Institute, and a master's in industrial engineering at Chrysler Institute were still not enough, so in 1957 he was awarded another master's degree in business administration from the University of Michigan.

Talented though he is, DeLorean is not, of course, designing the entire car himself. In fact, he has delegated much of that task to William T. Collins, Jr. who has been president of the DeLorean Corporation's Automotive Division since October 1974. Collins had been with Pontiac since 1958, having much to do with the first Tempest, the Firebird, GTO and Grand Am.
